All branch members are also members of our Charitable Foundation, which was established in January 2008 as a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization. Through the foundation, we raise funds for programs that support AAUW’s mission, promoting equity and equal opportunities for women and girls, locally and nationally.
An annual February benefit is our primary fund raiser. Regrettably, an in-person gala could not be held in 2021 and 2022 because of the Corona virus pandemic. But we were still able to raise funds with a No-Lunch Luncheon.
The funds raised by and contributed to the foundation benefit:
- Doris Karlik Local Scholarships — which help deserving high school students continue their education as well as local women already enrolled in a college or university,
- Tech Trek — Week-long STEM camps for middle-school school girls, held at Florida universities. The pandemic caused cancellation of the two camps planned for summer 2020, The camps were back virtually in 2021 and 2022.
- AAUW National Funds – including a Greatest Needs Fund, Economic Security Fund, Education and Training Fund, and Leadership Fund. Among the initiatives supported by the last three funds in the list, above, are research, fellowships and grants, Work Smart, Legal Advocacy, Campus Action.
Your tax-deductible contributions welcomed any time.
