For 2026 we are pleased to offer additional scholarships for Palm Beach County women seeking their first undergraduate degree. These scholarships are in honor and memory of two beloved sisters of Dr. Peter Pullon of Jupiter, Florida: Suzanne and Joanne Pullon. Dr. Pullon is proud of the achievements of these two sisters and wished to assist future girls and women to reach their potentials.
Pullon Scholarship Application
Suzanne (Sue) Pullon Fitch passed away on Friday, June 24, 2022, at home. Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on May 12, 1931. She earned a B.A. and an M.A. in Speech at the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor and completed her Ph.D. course work in American Culture there. Sue taught rhetoric courses in the Department of Communication Studies at Texas State University for 31 years. In 1997 Sue coauthored the book Sojourner Truth as Orator: Wit, Story, and Song and the article “The Rhetorical Construction of Sojourner Truth,” which won the 2002 Rose B. Johnson Award for being the most outstanding article in the Southern Communication Journal. In addition, she authored book chapters and articles. Upon her retirement from Texas State in 1998, she was named Associate Professor Emerita.
She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, John William Fitch III; her sister, Joanne Andrews, of Tequesta, Florida; her brother, Peter Pullon, of Jupiter, Florida; and other family members.
Sue and John owned Fitch & Fitch Antiques and enjoyed participating in antique shows. They also enjoyed travelling the United States and abroad, often on small ships. Sue will be missed by her family, friends, and former colleagues.
Joanne Pullon Andrews lived in Tequesta, FL and was born in September 1927 and is now deceased.
These scholarship will be administered by AAUW Northern Palm Beach County branch and its Charitable Foundation Inc, a 5011(c) 3 tax exempt organization.
